WELCOME TO MODELGLOSS
HOMEThe project Modelling Glossogeny (ModelGloss) attempts to reconstruct the historical evolution of languages using methods inspired by evolutionary biology for the reconstruction of the evolution of species. With the use of computational models it aims to unravel the interaction between genealogical (‘genetic’) and areal properties in language change. It focuses on morphosyntactic data.
The project involves collaboration between linguistics and biology. We investigate phylogenetic methods that are adequate for the representation of the dynamics of language change and the data that are more suitable for its reconstruction.
